Visitors arriving by organized transport from Bangkok rarely encounter this friction; independent travelers should withdraw cash in Kanchanaburi city before departure. The admission cost underwrites trail maintenance, waste removal, and ranger patrols across the park's 550 square kilometers of protected montane forest. What that 300 baht buys is access, not infrastructure luxury. The trail to the seven-tiered Erawan Falls remains the park's central draw, a 2-kilometer stone-and-earth path that climbs through limestone forest to emerald plunge pools. The conservation fee covers use of the trail, swimming access at each tier where conditions allow, and basic amenities—squat toilets at the trailhead, changing shelters near the lower falls, trash collection points.
